The Museum of Anthropology

The visit takes in two rooms :

The Albert I room for general prehistory, through a series of mouldings and original artefacts, presents the major steps in the history of humanity, from the Australopithecus to homo erectus and homo sapiens fossils. Along with these human exhibits, you can discover the many animal artefacts of extinct fauna or of species that migrated with the glacial and interglacial periods, as well as articles from the industries of the successive Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age civilisations.

The Rainier III room for regional prehistory presents local collections including some Upper Palaeolithic burial artefacts from excavations conducted upon the initiative of Prince Albert I from 1895 to 1922 in the Red Rocks (Grimaldi, Italian Liguria), in the Observatory Cave (Monaco), and all those practiced by the Anthropology Museum since 1945. The diversity of species resulting from successive variations in climate show that these caves long served as a shelter for animals.
